Week 1: The Beginning.

Hello! If you’ve just stumbled upon this blog, it looks like you’re in for a ride 🙂

My name is Matthew Onghai, and I’m a (sort of) busy student at UT Austin.

Before I entered University, I loved doing all sorts of creative things – namely painting, playing instruments, photography, and many others. Since I’ve started going to University, however, I realized that I have been cutting back on doing the things I enjoy. In response to that, I’ve decided to challenge myself to pursue my passions weekly; I’ll be making/doing something every week that pertains to my hobbies and post them here. You can see more about each week’s creation in my blog!

Week 1: New Website, and lots of other stuff

Today is the first Sunday of spring break, and I finally have time to do something interesting. Since I’m from San Antonio (and am currently at home for the break), I’ve been catching up on all of the things I haven’t done this entire semester. Today, I just remade my website (for the 3rd time) and hooked up this WordPress blog to easily manage my blog posts. It was honestly super frustrating to decide between coding the entire site completely out of HTML/CSS or just using WordPress to manage the site. I wanted a homepage that was fully customizable, but didn’t want to code an entire content management system for my blog posts. After hours of switching back and forth between raw code and WordPress (I actually did this too many times), I decided to settle on both. 🙂

I also went and got a guitar case so that I can bring my guitar back to school, got some watercolor paper, and messed around with the piano over the break. Stay tuned for what I make next week!

  1. Do you think that the demands of school make it hard to do the things you really want to do? Also how do you manage your time during a busy week?

    1. That’s something that definitely resonates with me, and that’s why I made it a point to take extra classes that interest me rather than all math/science. Honestly, using Google Calendar has helped me manage my time much easier! Thanks for reading!!

      1. My dad has been telling me to take P.E. / music classes to help balance me out, I might give that a try!
